Pete and Rena bid you a warm welcome to Old Steading Holiday Cottages situated 2 1/2 miles from Dufftown in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, the home of the Malt Whisky Trail. The holiday cottage has stunning far-reaching views over open countryside and wooded hills.
The Speyside area offers much to occupy visitors, there is superb walking, fishing, golf and wild-life. Also in Dufftown and surrounding area you can visit a number of the Distilleries featured on the Malt Whisky Trail - Glenfiddich Distillery and if you wish to add to the whisky experience you can visit The Glenlivet Distillery, The Strathisla Distillery at Keith approx 12 miles, The Glen Grant Distillery at Rothes appox 7 miles. Also in Dufftown you can visit the historic Balvenie Castle and on the outskirts Auchindoun Castle and Mortlach Church believed to be the oldest site in Scotland that has been in continual use as a place of worship. If you fancy a full day trip you could visit Balmoral Castle. You can do a round trip that takes you past the Lecht Ski centre and through some of the most spectacular scenery to be found anywhere in Scotland to Balmoral. You can then continue on through Royal Deeside to Banchory and then home via Torphins, Lumpanan and Huntly (this forms part of the Victorian Heritage Trail). From the cottage you can also visit the beautiful Moray Firth coast - spot the Ospreys feeding at Spey Bay (visit Baxters Visitors Centre for morning coffee or lunch) or stroll the sandy beaches at Cullen and Lossiemouth or visit the harbour and Portsoy and pop into the Portsoy Marble shop. During a trip to Elgin you can visit its Cathedral, Johnstons Woollen Mill (wonderful cashmere scarves and jumpers also good tea-room). Elgin also has good museum and art gallery.
The accommodation, which is all on one level is usually let on a weekly basis but short breaks are available - please ask for details and costs
